Measuring Success

If a baseball player gets a hit more than 30% of the time he is considered a super-star. If a bowler gets more than two-thirds of the possible score he is among the elite. If a basketball player makes more than half of his shots he is admired.

God bats a thousand, bowls nothing but 300s and never misses a shot. And still men doubt, disobey, reject and oppose Him.

There is no guarantee that we mortals can accomplish what we want. But there is a 100 percent guarantee that we can accomplish what the Lord wants. What He wants us to do is always the right thing. When He wants us to do it is always the right time. Where He wants us to do it is always the right place.

We don*t know when we succeed because we don*t know what the goal is. We think we fail for the same reason. Faith in the Lord is success. Unbelief is failure. Obeying the Lord is success. Disobedience is failure. I bat a thousand when I trust the Lord and zero when I don*t. When we trust the Lord we already have the victory. When we doubt Him we have already failed. Never mind the results. They are not the goal. We often want the wrong results anyway. We can always know that He wants us to trust Him. We can*t always know what else He wants. Many times we can only learn what He wants after the fact.

1 John 5:4: For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Romans 14:23: And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
